For 50 straight years, Arthur Fleishman has sounded the shofar for his Canton shul
When Temple Beth David of the South Shore was founded in 1960, Arthur Fleishman presented student rabbi David Goldstein with a shofar for the new shul.
Goldstein responded: “That’s very nice of you, now go learn to blow it.”
After being tutored by a rabbi in Wellesley, Fleishman took to the bimah on the High Holidays and sounded the ram’s horn. Full Story

A marriage made in Sharon: Shuls unite in time for holidays
In April, Harriet Cohen, the president and only original member of 27-year-old Klal Yisrael in Sharon, popped the question to the president of Temple Israel South Shore in North Easton: Would you like to merge?
By August, the two Reform synagogues had become one: Temple Kol Tikvah (Voice of Hope). Full Story
Shalom TV to show High Holiday services
Last High Holidays, Rabbi Mark Golub led the 800 people at his two Connecticut congregations in song and prayer. The services were the same as those in hundreds of shuls across the country, except for the fact that a few people were sitting in the balcony taping the services for national cable television.
