Michael Oren is not your typical ambassador. Raised in West Orange, N.J., the Israeli envoy to the United States served as a paratrooper for the Israeli Defense Forces in the 1982 Lebanon War. He holds a doctorate in Middle East studies from Princeton. He has been a contributing editor to The New Republic.
