What is the point of being Jewish? There are many answers, from “we have a covenant with G-d” to “it is a guide for leading a good and decent life.” These answers are not wrong, but surely for some the purpose of Judaism (and perhaps other religions) is to be a source of solace and strength when faced with the unexpected vicissitudes of life.
