Eschewing the ‘schmaltz’ but not the flavor
As a child, every time an older relative died, my paternal grandmother told me that all Jewish people died from heart attacks, which were caused by stress and schmaltz. Schmaltz: the word alone evokes memories of every Jewish grandmother’s kitchen and every doctor’s warnings.
